We moved to the CCSD over the summer. Our daughter started 4th grade at KES. After a couple of months we were starting to get concerned about the school district. I called GFMS to see if I could set up a meeting with the principal for a tour and to have some questions concerned answered. I was transferred around to a couple different people before being told 'We don't do that. There are too many parents in the district to have individual meetings, you'll just have to wait until the spring when we have orientation for everyone.' We have since pulled our child from the district and have her in a private school. If they don't care about us, I can't care about them.

Mr. Manfredonia's positive attitude, work & concern sets the tone for this great school. He cares about each student and truly wants to know if there is a problem. He now is handling 7-8th grades with Mr. LoPresti handling 5th and 6th but they work together hand-in-glove. Participate in the Science Fair every year. Request Mr. Wilbert for science in 7th -- students enjoy and learn about science, life and friendship. If your child loves music, make sure you keep it in 7th/8th -- it could fall off the schedule without anyone realizing -- they creatively resolve if you bring it to their attention. Orchestra is excellent and my son loved every minute. Mr. Callaghan does a great job...it's a travesty the board did not keep Mr. Stroffolino who made 5th grade bearable...better than therapy! Board must restore the 2nd orchestra teacher. Nice teamwork at GFMS between principal/guidance/teachers. I'm grateful for getting the value of a private school education from a public school. The two nurses walk on water and provide a haven for kids --- caring and kind while dispensing good medical attention...though the board needs to get a third nurse back for 1700+ students!

Like the elementary schools in the CCSD, the Middle School has a great deal of help for kids with IEPs (Special Ed) because it is State mandated but if your child is just a bit behind or confused, there is little to no support. Also, there is nothing for the brighter of the bunch. If your child is above average, don't go to any school in the CCSD. They just don't have anything for the smarter kids. For example, if you child is above average in math in 8th grade, they will send your child to the high school for 9th grade math! Imagine that...your child will be bused to the high school for a more advanced math class because the middle school does not have the students to make an entire class! Sad. Also, with all the budget cuts all of the sports and most of the extracurricular activities have been cut. BUT, the teachers still got raises. It amazes me how a district can cut all sports in a middle school but still hand out raises. As far as bullying, I don't think it is a huge problem but there are a few students who do what they want and there is no consequence. The curriculum is o.k.. Some teachers go out of their way to motivate and educate while others don't care.

The bullying problem still exists and, while the administration was receptive when parents complained, teachers ignored the issues in their classrooms, halls and playground - ridiculous!

Yes, bullying is a big probelm but asked that my daughter not be on team with certain individuals & request was honored without hesitation. Never a probelm with teachers, more than willing to communicate & work with me to resolve issues. My son has special needs & some of teachers have gone above & beyond to assist his needs. Heard 8th grade drug problem & hs but it happens everywhere - teach your kids. The biggest problem is the bus, you couldn't pay me enough, these poor drivers have it tough. Not only are kids nasty, vulgar, disrespectful,... But create a dangerous situation. We need cameras on the buses!!!

There is a serious bullying problem at this school which needs to be addressed by the school district. don t let your child be the next victim ! This school needs serious faculty and staff training on dealing with bullying they also need to allocate more personnel the the playground the student to faculty ratio is unacceptable.

This school is owned by the cliques ; bullies go everywhere and people are made fun of constantly, according to my child. Don't send your child here!

My son had a terrible time there( 5th grade). His grade was so overcrowded , he was on the floor with the older grades, he was bullied, and harasssed and because of the size of the school and the 1-2 deans, there was little or nothing done to help him adjust to all the new things going on. I transferred him to a new school this year, and I have my great son back, high honor roll, respectful, and happy. I am glad I got him out before any permanent change was made.

I am a parent and a teacher at GFMS and I am thrilled with the activities available to the students; everything from golf to Academic Triathlon. The district makes every effort to improve communication with the parents and the community so they are aware of the many services in place. I may sound like a cheerleader --- because I am. I am proud of our district and the continuous effort put forth by all to perfect the middle school experience for each of our students. I feel very badly when I read a negative review from a former student. -- Middle school is a trying time but keep in mind that at GFMS, 'its about the kids'.

I am a former student. I had a horrible time there so much that I had to switch to a different school district. The classrooms are over crowded. Other than colleges schools should not have 1500+ students. with 400 students per grade it's hard for all of them to be disapplined by 1 or 2 dean of students. There are a few sports and other after school activities for older students in the 7th and 8th grade but if you are in 6th or 5th grade then your choices are very limmited. Many problems!

The bathrooms for 5th and 6th graders are NOT like the others, they should be better.

It's ok in some ways and not so ok in others. There are a lot of programs for kids who need extra help. For the kids who need extra challenge, there is a lot of pretty talk, but not much work, at least in the lower grades. Maybe they magically expect them to turn into AP material in HS after having hardly any homework or effort for 95s and 100s in the lower grades.
